03/12/2013 - Brussels - Slavi Binev brought the Olympic spirit and ''Sochi 2014'' in the European Parliament On a spectacular cocktail reception in the European Parliament, organized jointly with the member of the parliament Vladimir Chijov, ambassador of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU, officially was presented to the upcoming XXII Winter Olympics and XI Paralympic games.
On the event were presented numerous dignitaries from the diplomatic corps in Brussels, including the presence of the member of the parliament Vladimir Chijov, ambassador of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU and member of the parliament Fuad Izgandarov, ambassador of Azerbaijan. Especially for presenting the Olympics in the European Parliament, two Olympic champions arrived from Russia - Mrs Galina Gorohova - three-time Olympic fencing champion, president of the Union of Russian athletes, member of the Executive Committee of the Russian Fencing Federation and Mrs Larisa Savkina - Olympic champion in handball. Among the special guests of this event was the young hope of the European Taekwondo Kaloyan Binev; Markus Kolyofel - director of the international centre of Taekwondo in Friedrichshafen, Germany; Frank Bauer - co-founder of the consulting firm SBiz Consulting GmbH and ex-German gymnast, as well as Fransis Kol - general secretary of the intergroup of rugby in the European Parliament. The guests had the unique opportunity to enjoy a video presentation of the Winter Olympic Games.

Francesco Speroni, co-chairman of the group ''Europe of Freedom and Democracy'' in the European Parliament, he greeted his colleague Slavi Binev for the wonderful initiative. The members of the parliament from almost all of the political parties in EP were presented in the room. Metin Kazak and Vladko Panayotov, Yacek Vlosovich and Tadeush Cymanski (Poland), Firoelo Provera (Italy), Roger Helmer and John Steward Agnew (United Kingdom), Alfreds Rubiks (Latvia), Ksaba Tabadji (Hungary) as well as one of the conservators on EP, Lidia Gerenger di Odenberg personally greeted Slavi Binev for organizing such a wonderful event.
Under the applause of the audience in the crowded hall, Slavi Binev explained that the sport should not divided the people but unite them. ''In the sport everybody is equal, because what matters are ones physical preparation, professionalism and sportsmanship'', stated Binev. Binev further expressed his gratitude to his majesty Vladimir Chijov, for his cooperation in the organization of the event and stated: ''Those who are trying to establish politics from the sport in most cases convert the politics into sport and are unable to boast concerning their success in both spheres.''

He expressed his indignation that even the president of the European Parliament, Mr Martin Schulz, probably based on political reasoning didn't support the organization of the event. ''The European Institutions distanced themselves from us, as well distancing themselves from the Bulgarian nation and Bulgaria, that was still ruled by the totalitarian regime, that wasn't much different than the one practiced in South America, Africa and Asia'' stated Binev. Yet again, he opposed the discrimination in the sport, especially the one to which the young artistic gymnast will be exposed to in the upcoming Youth Olympics in China next year. In the name of the Olympic spirit, Binev urged those who were present to express support in his initiative, the number of European ensembles to be increased from one to three. The evening ended with a toast directed towards the competitors, wishing them success in the upcoming XXII Winter Olympics and XI Paralympic Games in Sochi and further wishes for a victory to the best and most deserving athletes.
