Crans Montana Forum, the second largest after the meeting in Davos political and economic council was held in Brussels from 7 to 10 March 2012. Traditionally, the meeting brought together prominent political and economic leaders from around the world including the Prime Minister of Kenya Raila Ading, the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium Didier Reinders, representatives of the departments of many states, ministers, diplomats and business elite.
Slavi Binev who is elected by the Economic Commission of the European Parliament for rapporteur on the text for assistance from European Bank for Reconstruction and Developments in the countries after the Arab spring onto the road to democracy, was among the co-chairs of the forum.
In his speech Binev said "Democracy in a country is real only when people have a real opportunity to choose their power, and this can only happen if they are given real information " Binev said, adding that the freedom of speech and fair elections have the formula for true democracy.
Binev chose the first parliamentary elections in Tunisia, where the turnout was 90 percent, which according to the MEP shows the willingness of people to live in democratic countries and democratic future. "Although electoral activity in order to enjoy a country of democracy, they must build a political platform that is not built on the basis of lies and excuses" added Binev making analogies between the Arab spring and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, in particular Bulgaria, where despite the seeming democracy, dictatorship prevails of Boyko Borisov, who rule his people with lies and deceit, promises and excuses. Slavi Binev strongly emphasized that as a guarantor and a model of democracy in the world, the European Union is a good example of the Arab world, allowing the existence of totalitarian regimes within its borders. According Slavi Binev the peoples of the Arab spring gave the most vivid example that people can oppose their dictators and defend their right to live in a democratically governed country.
Another important focus in the speech of Binev was the discussed unique role of the media and the freedom of expression in democracy building. According to Binev the first step of the totalitarian regime is controlling the media in order to start manipulating the people and distort what is happening in the country.
